Psychiatric Diagnostic Evaluation
50 min

A psychiatric diagnostic evaluation is a comprehensive assessment designed to understand your mental health concerns and guide an appropriate treatment plan. During this appointment, we will review your medical, psychiatric, and social history, discuss your current symptoms, and evaluate factors such as mood, thought patterns, sleep, and functioning.

This evaluation helps identify possible diagnoses and determine whether medications, psychotherapy, or a combination of treatments may be beneficial. The goal is to develop an evidence-based, individualized care plan that supports your overall mental and emotional well-being.

New patients start with a Psychiatric Diagnostic Evaluation.

Psychotherapy - Referral

At Vista Mental Health, we believe psychotherapy plays an essential role in the comprehensive treatment of mental health conditions. Evidence-based therapy can help individuals develop insight, build coping skills, and support lasting recovery.

While we do not currently offer psychotherapy in-house, we partner closely with trusted community providers to ensure our patients have access to high-quality, coordinated care. If psychotherapy is recommended as part of your treatment plan, we will assist you in connecting with a therapist who best fits your needs and preferences.

Conditions We Treat

  • When worry feels constant, overwhelming, or hard to control, it may be more than everyday stress. Generalized Anxiety Disorder often shows up as persistent worry, restlessness, trouble sleeping, or physical symptoms like muscle tightness and fatigue.

At Vista Mental Health, we help you understand the roots of your anxiety and develop personalized treatment strategies - whether through medication management, therapy referrals or lifestyle support - to help you feel like yourself.

  • Bipolar disorder causes mood shifts that can include periods of elevated energy or irritability (mania or hypomania) and times of low mood or fatigue (depression). These changes can impact sleep, motivation, and relationships.

We work with you to create a treatment plan that promotes stability, improves daily functioning, and helps you maintain balance over time through medication and ongoing support.

  • Depression can affect how you think, feel, and function day to day. You might notice loss of interest in activities you once enjoyed, low energy, changes in sleep or appetite, or feelings of guilt or hopelessness.

At Vista Mental Health, we approach depression with compassion and evidence-based care, focusing on restoring balance and helping you rediscover a sense of motivation and joy. Treatment may include therapy referrals, medication, or a combination designed specifically for you.

  • Healthy sleep is essential for mental and physical wellbeing. Difficulty falling or staying asleep can lead to fatigue, irritability, and problems concentrating.

We evaluate the underlying causes of sleep disturbances and provide strategies—both medical and behavioral—to help you get more restful, restorative sleep.

  • OCD involves intrusive, distressing thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviours or mental rituals (compulsions) performed to reduce anxiety. These patterns can feel exhausting and time-consuming.

Our goal is to help you better understand your symptoms and find relief through medication support and evidence-based therapies such as cognitive-behavioral strategies, in collaboration with trusted community therapists

  • Panic attacks can be sudden, intense episodes of fear that may cause heart racing, shortness of breath, dizziness, or a sense of losing control. When these episodes become frequent or cause you to fear having another, it may be a sign of panic disorder.

At Vista Mental Health, we focus on helping you regain confidence and reduce the frequency and intensity of panic attacks through effective treatment options and supportive care.

  • PTSD can develop after experiencing or witnessing trauma. Symptoms may include flashbacks, avoidance of reminders, nightmares, or feeling on edge. Healing is possible with the right care.

At Vista Mental Health, we use trauma-informed approaches to help you regain a sense of safety, manage distressing memories, and move toward recovery. We also connect patients with skilled trauma-focused therapists when appropriate.

  • Psychotic disorders, including schizophrenia and related conditions, may involve changes in thinking, perception, or behaviour such as hallucinations, altered beliefs, or disorganized thoughts.

At Vista Mental Health, we provide compassionate, non-judgmental care and medication management aimed at reducing symptoms, improving insight, and helping individuals function more comfortably and confidently in daily life.
